ownCloud – with legacy support App Reviews

There are very problematic issues with this app. The app will open, connect to my server, and allow me to view files from my server but that is about all that it will do so far. Recent updates allow for automatic uploading of photos and movies, but it works only sporadically. The app allows for forced uploading of selected photos but will not, no matter what Ive tried, show more and a few of the most recently captured photos or videos. I have 100 pics on my phone and ownloud will only see three right now. This app would be fantastic if it would just work. So far I cannot drop my sugarsync account because I cannot rely on owncloud to do its job correctly or at all.

The app itself is ok. It keeps signing me off after some time. Its kinda bothersome as I really want it for the Instant Upload feature so I dont have to manually upload pictures. The app has a great deal of potential to finally get me off Dropbox, but the issues still stand. It will also crash when viewing pictures back to back after a few.

Thank you for fixing this app - no more crashes! I still get the occasional "the server cannot be reached at this time" but I would gladly make that my ringtone as opposed to the constant crashing before. I love this app again!

Edited...all problems fixed by removing the app and reinstalling it. Im having multiple issues since the latest update and it has made the app useless for me. 1. Each sign in duplicates the list of documents and folders on the iPad but not on the server itself if checked via the web. 2. Clicking on an item gives me an invalid username or password message and then it boots me out. I verified I am using the right login credentials. 3. After looking at release notes it says it downloads in the background. That has never worked on my iPad or my wifes iPad.

I could just use transmit or another WebDAV client, but this is way more convenient. Worth it! Works great for me and all of my Owncloud users. I suppose most people havent setup their server correctly or updated it in ages? Perhaps they could help out by submitting a bug report on the GitHub issue queue?

I just deploy my owncloud server, and I got to say this app interacts directly with the server. Its just like Dropbox, only its running steroids lol I give 4 stars because I want to be able to administer settings on the server from this app. Overall its fabulous!

Every time I open it I get promoted to configure it with server address, username, and password. This is a known bug that requires you to double click the home button twice and swipe the app off the list. Then when you reopen it it remembers your config info for one time only. They said they would fix this a couple patches ago but havent. Update 9/7/2015 - app still messing up like this

The app itself isnt too bad. Every once in a while it crashes, but the interface is Ok. What is really obnoxious however, is that every time I have to re-type my server address, username and password to get access to my files. Its hardly worth the trouble using the owncloud iOS app when this is what you have to go through.

For me, cant even keep the app open, uploading appears to be failing or recurring, and folders empty after upload. Not sure where the issue is, but Im unable to make use of the app as installed by iOS.

The app is very basic. I wish it had photo thumbnails and "select all".

I was able to view photos full screen before the update, but now it wont work. Please fix ASAP.

You will have to re-setup your account constantly just to find duplicates of your account after you login. Each time this happens instant upload is turned off. Because of this the app is worthless as it wont go back and send the pictures it missed when it self-disabled. Instant upload also requires location services to be on constantly.

Did last update remove full screen picture view?

Auto upload is the feature I want the most. It works sometimes but not consistently. I have to keep killing the app and restarting to to kick off the upload. If auto upload doesnt work it is impossible to see what files you have already uploaded because the display is truncated. So then selecting all will work because it will throw errors when there is a conflict, but the errors are notifications that show up on the badge count and you have to swipe each one individually to dismiss. The photo browsing is also nowhere near what Dropbox and carousel offer. It works, but is really slow and doesnt seem to prefetch anything so you have to wait for each image to download. It would be nice to at least have a thumbnail generated to get a rough idea before clicking through to load it. Absolute basic functionality works and is effective, it just needs quite a bit of refinement.

Not very useful. You can acces document like Word or Excel but you cant save them back unless you have an Office 365 account.

I got my server up and running and it works great! Love ownCloud but the app will not find my server even on my LAN even though every device including safari on iPad can connect! Please fix and app would definitely be 5 stars!!

Left pane used to go away. It doesnt anymore. Need to hard restart app each time I open or it goes to the initial screen where I need to re-add my credentials.

App constantly loses login information. Once you have logged in to a server, you have to uninstall app to remove server. Auto upload fails with no useful information. Proper ports are open and Owncloud otherwise works perfectly, this app gets worse with each release.

I love the idea behind this app. If it could provide the same experience as the HTTP ownCloud site that I can access on my ownCloud server site with added support for instant upload of my photos, but on my iPhone, I would be very satisfied. As it is, the app is still useful, but it’s got too many bugs and I’m surprised they haven’t been fixed already. First, the app will annoying ask me for my username and password after I’ve already logged in if I open the app while it is running in the background. Closing and re-opening the app fixes the issue but it’s clearly a bug. Second, the InstantUpload feature (similar to iCloud Photo Stream) is a little buggy. I’m not sure how often it is checking for new photos and some more transparency on that issue would be nice. But most importantly, it only works about half the time. The other half I either get credential errors (for which tapping on the error usually fixes it) or “File Error”(s) which I have found no solution for. Also, it does not support sharing of files and PDF viewing is inconsistent on iPad (sometimes it works, sometimes it shows black or gets stuck in fullscreen with no way to get out). Fix these issues and you will have a fantastic app.
